The August wholesale price index edged up 0.6 percent after seasonal adjustment, with consumer foods and meat products contributing gains while live poultry and processed meat fell. Prices for fruits and vegetables jumped 6.9 percent, placing them 19.8 percent higher than a year ago.
Logan County Prosecuting Attorney Oval D Damron may face a conflict if he follows the governors Ad Hoc Commission and orders a grand jury probe into the Buffalo Creek disaster. Damron says he will consult the ethics committee as the situation creates an awkward position and potential conflicts with ongoing civil actions.

The State Election Commission voted to strike references to skin color from voter registration forms and agreed to study three major election changes at its November meeting. Governors Moore and Williams were noted in the session coverage.
At a meeting the commission discussed recommendations for lawmakers in January to shorten presidential election ballots by altering delegate selection, reduce campaign lengths, and modify county executive apportionment to curb urban advantages. The funeral for Jennings Radford, 52, of Spring Hill Florida and formerly of Fayetteville, will be at 2 p m Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill. Burial is in High Lawn Memorial Park. He died in Georgia Wednesday from an apparent heart attack. He is survived by his wife Edith Slater Radford.
