Fires Force State Families To Evacuate Valley Homes
A week-old forest fire south of Keyser, Maryland Virginia border drove at least three families from their valley homes seven miles south of Keyser. Evacuees sought refuge in New Creek as flames threatened the town and a storeowner warned the danger would grow without wind change or active firefighting. District Forester Lester McClung said fire crews and volunteers fought the blaze since last Thursday on Allegheny Front and found evidence the fire was started or aided by arsonists.
