Elevator Dreams and Power Line Towers in Raleigh County
A columnist notes the crowded bank lines in Raleigh County and contrasts them with the quieter note-teller window. The piece observes two styles of power line towers along Power Line Avenue and humorously imagines elevator shafts mounted outside buildings. It highlights Ethel Wright, longtime elevator operator, and her surreal view of coal barons riding to the top floor to assess profits, ending with a playful suggestion to repurpose the shaft for quicker descents.
