Two Wyoming Men Hurt in Separate Auto Accidents

Mullens state police reported two men from Wyoming were injured in separate crashes near Glen Fork and Herndon. Dorsey Shrewsbury of Barkers Creek suffered multiple head and facial cuts after a Ford overturned. Tommy Shrewsbury of Odd was uninjured. Paul McKinney of Herndon was treated for a broken collarbone and three rib fractures when a truck overturned at Herndon.

Oak Hill Sewer Ordinance Aligns With State Law

Oak Hill enforces sewer connection under state law. Owners of buildings on lots with public sewers must connect if ordered by the Board of Health. After a written notice and 10 day period, noncompliance becomes a misdemeanor with daily fines from five to twenty five dollars. Police court handles hearings and sentencing.

Pastor Hopes to Build Dormitories for Homeless

Rev Bronte Carr told Oak Hill Lions Club he aims to add three dormitories for homeless boys girls and aged persons at his Jones farm mission started in January 1948. He said the mission has clothed fed and housed over 100 families and provides 25 to 30 dollars weekly in medicine for the ill.

Jobless Benefits Rise at Oak Hill WV Office

The Oak Hill WV unemployment office reports a small rise in September benefits. The office logged 1 578 personal visits, 143 applicants referred to local jobs, 91 placed in suitable employment, including 10 women and 45 veterans, with six handicapped workers placed in mining and construction.

Miners Injured in Accidents at New River Operations

Oak Hill workers Bernard White of Whipple and Boyd Carter of Mount Hope are hospitalized after accidents at two New River Company sites. White sustained a facial injury at the Whipple mine. Carter contracted a leg infection from a nail at Garden Grounds. Also reported: a parking meter was stolen from Main Street near the Merchant's and Miner's Bank on a weekend night in Oak Hill.

James Bowden Dies at 28 in Rises Crossing

Funeral arrangements for James Bowden of Rises Crossing are incomplete. Bowden died at 2 p.m. Sunday from a heart attack and was taken to Hinton Hospital on Saturday. He was the son of Carl Bowden of Meadows Bridge.

McCourt to Head McDowell Vocational School

Okey E. McCourt named director of the McDowell County Vocational School succeeding E. B. Henry who left for Orlando. McCourt previously led Wyoming County Vocational School for four years and is a Webster County native with 13 years elementary teaching and wartime work at the War Production Center in Charleston. He now serves as area supervisor for the State Vocational Department. Woman Treated For Head Injuries After Altercation

In Mullens a Goose Hollow woman named Blary Red was treated at Taylor Hospital for head wounds after being struck on the left side with an ax by another Black woman following a coal pile dispute. Police report the injury is not serious and she will be released after stitching. A call to Robertson and Foglesong Funeral Home reported a woman found near Conley School was moved to hospital by ambulance.
