Fire Destroys John Riffe Farm in Whitesville
A Saturday fire in Whitesville destroyed the John Riffe farm near Sylvester, a Boone County landmark. Delbert Cameron and his grandchildren lived there. only a small amount of furniture was saved. Firefighters lacked water and could not save furniture or most of the structure before the roof burned. The farm, leased to Earl Graybeal and subleased to the Camerons, sits on land now owned by Prichard Land Company of Charleston. After the blaze, the Camerons moved their stove and refrigerator, but the truck fire caused further flames to flare in stored furniture.
