Special Permits Required To Hunt In Pipestem Area
Special permits are required for hunting on about 9 500 acres of farm and woodland in the Pipestem area between New River and Bluestone River. The West Virginia Farmers Protective Association has closed the area with 117 farmers in the group. Only three hunting permits have been issued, all for fox hunting. A committee will study restocking possibilities with quail and other small game, and a representation to Charleston to meet legislative personnel won unanimous approval. Abuses of hunting privileges led to the protective association's formation. A farmer reported fires during a dry season, with five fires seen by nine o clock that morning. The group plans to patrol woodlands and extinguish fires and will close the area to hunting in a dry season.
