Trial of Homer Hanna Opens in Fairmont Tax Case
Opening arguments begin in the trial of Homer W. Hanna a Democratic political figure charged with income tax evasion. Judge Sterling Natche refused a delay until after the election. Hanna pleaded innocent to six counts and 12 jurors plus two alternates were selected. He allegedly evaded 31777 in taxes from 1949 to 1933. The defense aims to show the money passed through Hanna Insurance Agency as non taxable. Prosecution says Hanna faces up to 30 years and 60000 dollars in fines. The trial could last about two weeks with strong witnesses including Gov. Marland. One juror asked to be excused citing prior political exposure to Hanna.
