Timber Deal Disputed by State Official Over Lands Sale
Taylor criticizes the legislature for not granting the director power to sell state lands while noting the natural resources law must be strictly followed. Last spring the plaintiffs, five small sawmill firms, sought a temporary injunction to stop J. B. Belcher & Sons from cutting timber not predated by the order. The injunction required a $25,000 bond, which the plaintiffs failed to file. The contract set timber prices at 15 per 1000 board feet for some and 12 for others.
