A fragmentary Tokyo dispatch notes tensions between Indonesia and the United States. The government faces accusations about CIA interference and strains in American relations, with mobs attacking installations and anxieties over anti communist media actions and moves toward closer ties with China.
The Pentagon plans to dissolve 751 Army Reserve units including all six infantry divisions, shrinking the organized Reserve to about 15,000 high priority soldiers. Congress had not approved the merger, and key lawmakers supported the move as the department moves to establish combat readiness amid the Viet Nam era. The dissolution affects 55,000 men across the divisions.

Government troops killed at least 68 Vietnames e in a Delta sweep. The Communists left 68 bodies and may have taken others. U.S. SAC B52s from Guam attacked a suspected Viet Cong concentration 320 miles northeast of Saigon as part of air support for the delta operation.
Washington UPI reports Army Fourth Class Gordon L. Taylor of St. Albans died from non-hostile action in Viet Nam. He was the son of Mr and Mrs James W Taylor.
An order by Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara will close the 3rd Infantry Division and about 55,000 reserve units nationwide. The action affects men from Huntington and Charleston areas and ends active duty for the listed units.

President Johnson will sign the immigration reform bill outdoors near the Statue of Liberty on Bedloe's Island after final congressional approval. The measure ends the national origins quota and sets a world quota of 170,000 yearly with a 120,000 cap from the Western Hemisphere, a first in U.S. history. Moyers noted interest in the Liberty site for the ceremony.
Pittsburgh faced threats to have milk supply cut off as prices rose. Ernest Hayes of United Dairy Farmers warned the step may be necessary. Police arrested 60 people during a melee as 400 hymn-singing farmers and wives picketed an Islay Dairy Co. plant.
MARTINSBURG A Parkersburg business owner Irving O. Marilla 63 waived to the grand jury on an arson charge after a two month probe of a storeroom fire in the Martinsburg area. Bond set at 1500 pending October grand jury appearance. Fire investigators noted substantial merchandise loss and staged value changes during the inquiry.
The federal food stamp program launched here amid confusion as Raleigh County residents learned they needed an eligibility card. County residents should receive cards by next Tuesday. cards must be shown with recently issued identification. Senator Byrd praised the program, noting benefits for West Virginians and the economy, with $8.37 million spent since May 1961.

The Air Force selected Lockheed’s Marietta division to build a massive transport aircraft capable of carrying 600 troops or up to 250000 pounds of cargo. The fuselage is large enough for six full-size buses side by side and can haul heavy military equipment including tanks, with the ability to land on a dirt airstrip of 4000 feet. Boeing and Douglas were competitors in the bid.
