Itmann Driver Faces Hit Run Drunk Charges in Mercer County

Charley Allen a 53 year old Negro of Garwood is held in Mercer County Jail on charges of fatally stabbing his son in law Nathanael Cheatham 43 an employee of the Lamar Collieries near Maloaka. The stabbing followed a drinking party at Cheatham home in Lamar. Allen's hearing set before Magistrate Frank Gibson in Matoaka. The report notes a separate driving while drunk and hit and run case against Harley Christian 45 of Sfmaon a Wyoming County truancy officer and former education board worker. He was arrested in Mullens near Batley Lumber Company after a collision in Malenka injuring a child. He will face arraignment for driving while drunk in Wyoming and Mercer counties. Christian has held various education board roles and is district field manager for Esquire Company.

Neighbors Fight Over Their Dogs Leads to Court Hearings

Two neighbors on Tunnel Hill facing police court hearings December 7. Ralph S. Hall charged with felonious assault for a knife wound to John E. Lilly. Lilly charged with malicious wounding. Bonds set at $500 for Hall and $1,000 for Lilly. Incident happened near the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway roundhouse after a dispute over dogs. Lilly treated for a groin wound and released. Police Captain Shirey and Trooper Turner investigated.

Driver Fined 25 After Wreck In City Court

Paul Belcher pleaded guilty to careless driving after a Friday wreck near Walker Service Station. Judge G B McGraw fined him $25 plus costs. Belcher and his wife escaped unharmed from their 1941 sedan that struck a parked 1948 truck owned by Harry Houck. Witnesses said missed blinding lights and windshield wipers failed contributed to the crash.

Rites Not Set For Otsego Man

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Robertson Foglesong Funeral Home for a middle aged man tentatively identified as Walter Byrd who died at his Otsego home Sunday evening from natural causes. An attendant could not confirm the full name. Ed Church said he had employed a Walter Byrd as a lumber hand about a year ago. Lodge plans dinner by Heisier staff writer notes a covered dish dinner served to Odd Fellows Lodge and Laurel Rebekah Lodge members on December 4 at the Oak Hue meeting.

Princeton Teen Cyclists Injured In Road Crash

A 15 year old Princeton boy Jack Mills remained in hospital with a slight concussion and skin injuries after a bicycle crash with a car on the Bluefield Princeton road. Joe Wiley 13 of Bluefield was treated for skin abrasions and released. E C Ketron of Princeton drove the vehicle carrying Mrs Ketron. no charges were filed.

Glen Daniel Baby Expires at Birth

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow for Danie Ray Cochran, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cochran of Glen Daniel, who died at birth Sunday at 9 a.m. at the residence. The body will remain at Rose Funeral Home pending complete arrangements.

Patteson and Renick Named to Legion Posts in 1949

Governor-elect Okey L. Patteson of Mount Hope is named on the national staff of the American Legion as a distinguished guests committee member. Myron R. Renick of Fayetteville appears on Patteson’s committee, among 26 West Virginians appointed to national commissions and boards in 1949, announced by National Commander Perry Brown.

Richard Williams Feted on Birthday in Kopperston

Richard Allen Williams of Kopperston was honored on his sixth birthday with a dinner party hosted by his grandparents Mr and Mrs Hurley Pennington. Guests included Frank Williams Miss Pat Williams Bentley Humphary and other local relatives. A Kingston birth earlier announced William Jr arrived eight pounds at home to Mr and Mrs William Ticker.

Funeral rites for infant Robert Shelby Settle

Funeral services were held at Winston Baptist Church for Robert Shelby Settle six week old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ja Settle who died Thursday evening at home.
