Thanksgiving Origin Rewritten From Pilgrims Myth
Louis Cassels explains that Thanksgiving did not begin with the Pilgrims in 1620. The holiday derives from the Church of England and Michaelmas on Sept. 29, featuring roast goose dinners and harvest blessings. The piece traces earlier feast traditions from St. Martin’s Day and even pre-Christian antiquity in Deuteronomy’s guidance, framing Thanksgiving as a long evolving observance.
