The Ansted Lions Club hosted a banquet at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Ansted to honor the Ansted High School football squad. The program featured a national anthem, invocations, toastmaster E R Vawter, a music set by the high school quartet, and speeches from Otway Gunnoe and Martin Hofstetter. Six Mullens Men Escape Death In Virginia Car Crash
Six men from Mullens and a 12 year old boy survived a Saturday morning crash near Narrows Virginia when their 1937 Chevrolet overturned five times and caught fire. The group escaped with minor injuries after a 16 year old Narrows boy released them by kicking out a window. The driver Fred Deal and others including Henry Agee, Joe Hayden, Willard Pugh, Wendell Cook and his son Bobby Jack were involved. A beagle died in the wreck and the top of the car collapsed trapping occupants briefly before escape. Continuous traffic halt due to a coal strike delayed arrival of help. Hayden sustained a head injury and back strain. Agee had a cut over the eye from broken glasses. The group used a first aid kit from the car.

Five Injured in Glen Jean Road Collision
Five persons were admitted to Oak Hill Hospital after a head on collision near Glen Jean between Homer Legg and a truck driven by Eugene Tuggle of Fayetteville. Legg suffered a fractured knee cap and broken ribs, Mrs. Legg had a leg fracture, Pauline Legg had a head cut, Mrs. Vernon Cox had a fractured foot, and Allen Cox Jr received forehead and head lacerations. Tuggle posted a 300 bond on a reckless driving charge as police investigate the occupants of Legg’s car.
