Rev. F L Shannon professor of English preached a Thanksgiving sermon to Beckley College students in the Methodist Episcopal church on Heber Street. It was the first church program since the second term began and was directed by the college literary society.

W A Red Thornhill Jr filed his first campaign expense account with the county a month after the filing deadline. He reported a $200 donation to the Democratic executive committee and noted that other costs for printed material travel and advertising were not itemized. Republican J S Butts said his House of Delegates race cost $31.50. Democrat E E Justice county commissioner spent $175. Sheriff H G Farmer reported contributing $200 to his party for headquarter expenses.
Chicago police linked the shotgun death of Big Mike Galvin, longtime Chicago Teamsters head, to labor strife rather than politics. A woman, Genevieve Draper, was questioned and released, while detective inquiries extended to warehouse union boss Thomas Brennan. Galvin’s feud with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters had seen earlier killings and raids on his headquarters.
The Raleigh Register reports its employer will close for the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow and the newspaper will not be published. Regular publication will resume Friday.
Holly Holsten a 24 year old Hico coal miner faces murder charges after an on record confession to killing his second cousin Corey Jarrell. The defense calls it accidental while the prosecutor emphasizes hunting without a license and a fatal shot to Jarrell. Holsten testified the morning was foggy and he heard someone exclaim Oh Lordie as Jarrell fell. The trial resumes with both sides set to present closing arguments later today.
George M. Harrison, chairman of the AFL peace committee, conferred at length in Tampa with Max Zaritsky, a Lewis committee member, as the labor federation weighs peace with the rebel unions.
W. C. Bowden of Atwell-Catron Motor Company suffered burns on his left arm and neck when paint ignited near his workstation. He was treated at Beckley hospital, where officials said the burns appeared not serious.
Students from West Virginia University Wesleyan College Marshall V P I New River State and Concord flood Beckley for the holiday. The town buzzes with plans for football games parties and church events as stores close for Thanksgiving and mines halt for the holiday. About 2000 local fans are expected to attend the Hinton high school football clash with a full day of post game festivities.
Mrs Eliza Cottle Williams 62 wife of Thomas G Williams of Cittsville died about 1 15 am today at her home from pneumonia after six years of invalidism. She was a Methodist. Survived by two sons Tracy J Williams deputy sheriff Beckley Norvell Williams Eccl e and four daughters Mrs P Buckland Sprague Mrs Robert Fitzgerald Mabscott Mrs Ray Williams Pax and Mrs Clyde Sink Marfrance. Funeral services were not complete this afternoon.
D. C. Woods chosen as scoutmaster for Skelton church sponsored troop with F. F. Fitzgerald as assistant. Organization to complete December 8 with a meeting of prospective scouts at the Skelton community hall. Troop committee includes G. R. Thornton James Woodward H. E. Ashe H. Biggs and George Harmon.
Eleven million Christmas seals are distributed across the state by the West Virginia Tuberculosis and Health Association before their December sale. Proceeds will finance county tuberculosis programs next year aiming to raise $50,000 to supplement public funds. Dr. George W. Evans, newly elected head, announced the plan at a workers meeting noting seals have been sold for 30 years.
Attorney E Clyde Scott filed a divorce suit with the circuit clerk today between M B and Mahala Spangler.
The landlord Charles F. Young testified he discovered the Feely family including Mrs Eleanor Feely and two children dead in their apartment last June. He described lights out, a locked door, and finding the boy’s rigid body, with autopsy showing strangulation and extra wounds. Authorities weighed whether the mother acted alone or an intruder killed all three.
The Irish Free State defense department reported Col. Charles A. Lindbergh landed somewhere in England after a three hour Dublin to London flight. A Kent resident said the aviator is safe, but exact whereabouts remained unknown as Dublin and Belfast inquiries swamped telephone lines and Croydon airport officials did not confirm landing.
New York reports 28 year old Simplicio Godino is now a complete man after a rare separation from his deceased twin Lucio. The operation added a rectum via plastic surgery, the only organ they shared. Lucio died last night while en route from North Carolina where the brothers had performed. The illness was rheumatic fever, initially thought pneumonia.
A Chicago steel electric train rear crashed into a wooden elevated car near a north side station. The wreck left nine dead and 65 hospitalized with many in critical condition. Police deployed 500 officers, 30 squad cars, 20 ambulances and private units to assist. An inquest was set to begin at the county building.
Williamson-Daniel Clark 34, relief worker, faces death penalty for killing his wife and Henry Floyd 56 during a poker game at his Lenore home on October 17. He says he fired in self defense after Dale Sturgill shot at him and one other player was wounded.

Snow flurries and colder air move in tonight with Thursday forecast generally fair and colder in the east. Yesterday’s high reached 43 degrees and the night low dropped to 24, according to L. A. Mauck.
