Britain to Reject UN Interference in Colonies
LAKE SUCCESS The British announce they will reject United Nations interference in territories under UN trusteeship and in the British colonial empire. They blame the United States to some extent for supporting groups they say cause deterioration. John Fletcher-Cooke of Britain calls a news conference to oppose flying the UN flag with the Union Jack and denounce what he calls dictation contrary to the UN charter. Britain argues measures infringe its right to rule non self governing parts. The trust areas managed by several powers include former German and Japanese colonies. South Africa refuses to hand over the mandate for former German South West Africa, drawing assembly rebuke. Britain thus becomes the second rebel against world government trends.
