About 120 miners remain on strike at Consolidated Coal Co. Stephenson mine near Herndon over the helpers clause in the contract. Earl French said the walkout began at 8 a.m. Tuesday and a meeting is set for 4 30 p.m. today at Stephenson to discuss the dispute.
The Fernbank Science Center used a 48 inch telescope to observe Apollo 12’s first three nights. Astronomer Paul Knappenberger said the craft, 49,000 miles away and moving 17,000 mph after launch, appeared as an eighth magnitude star Friday night. It brightened briefly, then faded to a 12th magnitude by Saturday and to a 15th magnitude by Sunday.
The parents of Oak Hill Marine Larry Perry were informed of his death in Vietnam. Perry died Sunday, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Perry.

Pfc. Larry Perry son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Perry of 117 Thurmond Drive Oak Mill was killed November 16 in Quang Nam Vietnam. He is survived by one brother James and two sisters Shelby and Kathryn Toler. The body is being returned to Vance Jackson Mortuary in Oak Hill.
