Glendale-based Rotor-Craft Corp plans a two-seat GyroJet civilian helicopter, with ground drive capability and fold-up rotors, targeting sale within 18 months at about 5000 dollars. President Gilbert Magill cites 125 distributors and 6500 orders first year, prototypes due in six months, top air speed 100 mph, cruise 2.5 hours, highway 60 mph.
Washington AP reports President Eisenhower aims to lower federal outlays for the year starting July 1 below this year's estimated 79 billion. Rep. Joseph W. Martin Jr. says the President seeks spending cuts, avoids another debt increase, and pins hopes on a GOP comeback in 1960.
Mrs Cecelia Niday 86 of Slab Fork died Tuesday morning at a Beckley hospital after an extended illness. Born 1872 in Giles County Virginia, she was the daughter of George and Elmira Porterfield. Survived by daughter Vera St Clair Sophia. sons George B Stotesbury Morris K and Holly B Green Valley. 17 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Free Will Baptist Church Sophia. Burial McKinney Cemetery Slab Fork. Pallbearers are the deceaseds grandsons. Body at Williams and Craven Funeral Home prior to service.
Maggie Hamlin of Scarbro died this morning at her home. The body remains at Durgan Funeral Home pending completion of arrangements.
East Germany hinted it would seize control of the air links between Berlin and Frankfurt, Hamburg and Hannover used by Allied troops and civilian flights. Neue Zeit accused the Western powers of wartime-use while carrying refugees, signaling a push to renegotiate the corridors' status amid a broader push to end four power control in Berlin.
West Virginia voters approved a money exemption for bank deposits by a 4 to 1 margin on November 4. The amendment, ratified by all 55 counties, is official from ratification date with no additional legislation needed. Attorney General W W Barron stated the measure is self executing and effective immediately.

Beckley police jailed James Manning of Beckley at 8 45 p m Tuesday on drunkenness and trespassing charges. Two Stotesbury juveniles were jailed at 3 45 p m Tuesday by state police for breaking and entering after entering Mark Twain High School and taking soft drinks and candy. George Martin of Daniels remained in Raleigh County Jail awaiting arraignment on a check warrant after being jailed at 4 25 p m Tuesday. Eugene Price of Beckley was jailed by city police at 2 20 p m Tuesday on a capias pro fine for failing to pay an old city fine.
Crokey Foley 60 of Coal City died of a heart attack at 11 am today while working as a ventilation man at the Riffe's Branch Mine of Wind ing Gulf Coals Inc. Survivors include his mother Mrs. Mary Foley of Coal City and a brother James of Beckley. The body is at Williams and Craven Funeral Home in Sophia, pending arrangements.
Cincinnati Ohio AP Edyth Klumpp 34 a teacher confessed to police she killed rival Martha Bergen 32 after a quarrel over Bergen’s husband She claimed self defense and said she burned the body at Lake Cowan 45 miles northeast of Cincinnati with gasoline after loading it into her car with children present Hunters found the body on Nov 1 The two women had divorced husbands and moved from Virginia to Cincinnati
Guntown Mississippi resident Charlene Majers claims ownership of the moon as recognized by the U S Reclamation Bureau. She filed a notice on October 14 1950 in Tupelo asserting title and vow to defend the moon against any attackers. Her cousin Mitchell Herring owns Mars and serves in the Marine Corps. Charlene, a geology major at Mississippi State University, hopes to visit her celestial domain someday.
About 1 000 students protested UVA automobile use limits in Charlottesville. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, arresting five for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest as state troopers with tear gas arrived.
Huntington AP reports Chesapeake & Ohio announces the purchase of 50 box cars with loading equipment, marking the carrier's first major rolling stock purchase in months.
Two men survived in Lake Michigan after the 615-foot freighter Carl D. Bradley sank in 60 mile winds near Gull Island. Unofficial counts logged 18 bodies recovered as Christian Sartori searched the area. two Rogers City men Elmer Fleming and Frank Mays were found alive near High Island. Coast Guard reports and radio chatter described a Mayday in the ship’s final moments.
In Phoenix, Myron R. Renick chairman of the West Virginia Public Service Commission opposed the federal excise tax on local telephone bills. He argued in prepared remarks before the National Association of Railroad and Utilities Commissioners that electricity gas and water are untaxed while telephone is taxed. The 10 percent tax is collected by telcos for the government.
In South Charleston West Virginia the state police hunted for a 1956 Packard loaded with dynamite and 700 blasting caps taken by teenagers. A 14 year old boy and 13 year old girl from St Albans disappeared with a 16 year old boy and girl in the two tone blue car.
A storefront window at Berman Jewelry, 415 Neville Street, was smashed and an undetermined amount of diamond rings and other jewelry taken. An employee said inventory will determine losses as City Police investigate the incident.
Orlando Lilly a truck driver for Richmond Cleaners and Laundry was treated and released at Raleigh General Hospital after suffering an apparent stroke. He was found unconscious in his truck in the Beckley Municipal Parking Lot about 8 am and police were notified.

Circuit Judge C C Chambers granted probation today to two women sentenced November 10 for padding the payroll at the Logan commodity warehouse of the Department of Public Assistance. Miss Elizabeth V Franco must serve 10 more days and Mrs Opal Fenney 3 more days. Probation two years.
West Virginia U S Senator Jennings Randolph says coordinated effort by government management and labor is needed to aid the coal industry. He has begun gathering information from operators and unions and believes ways and means can strengthen the basic industry of the state.

Huntington AP reports coal and coke carloadings on Chesapeake & Ohio lines and received from connections last week totaled 17 712, a 2.3 percent rise over the prior week.
Hollywood reports that Tyrone Power died of a heart attack while filming in Spain and will be buried near Rudolph Valentino. His 70 year old mother is unaware of the death due to family discretion, and Power’s widow Debbie Minardos expects a February baby. Funeral plans faced Catholic burial questions due to Power’s prior marriage.
Beckley officials investigate a historic coal mine at New River Park off North Oakwood Avenue. Harry Anderson of the Chamber of Commerce notes a mine operated circa 1910 at the site. Lon Withrow recalls a 3.5 foot coal seam and a 300 foot extension before the Sprague mine opened nearby.

In Raleigh County Circuit Court Judge Norman Knapp heard the $62,000 personal injury case of Shirley Lozier vs Bobby M Phillips. Lozier claims injuries from a Nov 15 1957 auto crash in Skelton as Phillips drove into the path of Carlos Crouch. Phillips contends contributory negligence and fights drunken driving charges.
