Antibiotics Boost Growth in Runts Says VPI Expert

George Herring of Virginia Tech warns antibiotics can accelerate growth in runt pigs and save feed per 100 pounds of gain but cannot fix poor diets or replace good management. Recommended use is 10 mg per pound of creep feed and 5 mg per pound of feed in other rations, with 10–20 percent gain increases in normal pigs. They are not miracle cures and must accompany efficient rations and sanitary housing. Also noted is a cotton duster cap for cleaning high ceilings with a soft yarn top-knot to absorb dust.
