Gas Tank Explosion Threatens Colorado Town

A propane tank farm explosion near Idaho Springs rocked Downieville Colorado injuring at least four and forcing evacuations. Contempt Action Ordered vs Barnett and Johnson

The 5th Circuit ordered criminal contempt charges against Mississippi Governor Ross Barnett and Lt. Gov. Paul Johnson Jr for defying federal desegregation orders. The court directed U.S. Attorney General Robert Kennedy to prosecute, with the Justice Department preparing filings to start the action. Jennings Charged In Fatal Stabbing

State Police charged James P. Jennings of Princeton with murder in the fatal stabbing of Earnest Morris Jr. during a parking space dispute along an unpaved road. Morris, 33, a lumber company employee, died four hours after the stab wound to the chest near Morris’s home just outside Princeton. A preliminary hearing is set for next Thursday.

Fashion Designer Irene Gibbons Leaps To Death

Hollywood fashion expert Irene Gibbons known as Irene died after leaping from the 11th floor of the Hollywood Knickerbocker Hotel. She had previewed designs at a Beverly Hills fashion show and designed for stars like Dietrich Bergman and Colbert. Police say she cut her wrists before jumping and left a note to her husband Elliot Gibbons asking that he be cared for and the business handled.

Lusk Undergoes Lie Box Test in Wyoming County Jail

Beecher Lusk, 26, of Herndon Mountain, is in Pineville jail at noon for a lie detector test related to the shotgun slaying of Ted W. Belcher, 35, of Corinne. Lusk, charged with murder, will appear before Magistrate Ray Webb for a preliminary hearing Saturday morning. He surrendered after Belcher followed him from HernDon Mountain in a Jeep. Lusk said Belcher threatened him during a struggle over a shotgun. Officers cited a dispute over "woman trouble" as the motive.

Six Rescued From Schooner Curlew Near Bermuda
