Valerian A Zorin challenged joining in talks to draft a treaty by a June 1962 special General Assembly session. Stevenson sent a resolution requesting resumed negotiations. The assembly committee’s disarmament debate was in recess until Friday morning.
President Kennedy departs Washington for a Western speaking tour, first stopping in Seattle for the 100th anniversary of the University of Washington. He also will inspect military exercises and met with top aides before flying west. The trip follows the death of Speaker Sam Rayburn announced at the White House.
