Mrs. Jenny Eads, 81, of Keith and former Ameagle resident, died last week after fracturing her back and is hospitalized at Madison General Hospital. Mrs. Noble Jarrett of Ameagle hospitalized in Charleston for observation and treatment. Everett Belcher of Ameagle returned home from a business trip to Kentucky last week.
George Trice of Hill Top was honored with an open house on his birthday anniversary Sunday. The event featured a centered birthday cake on the table. Aides Mrs. Javier Chilas and Mrs. Eve n assisted guests, with seventy five persons calling during the day.
A Kansas City paper advertises a 30 day trial of a rupture truss from Physician's Appliance Co. The offer provides a free $3.50 truss if not fully satisfied, asking readers to write to 2583 Koch Building 2906 Main St for the trial.
Oceana High School hosts Education Week with open house for parents during American Education Week. Future Teachers of America invite patrons to observe classes and teaching methods, plus a student play, posters, exhibits, and daily topics stressing education’s role in liberty.
William Jones 70 of Glen Rogers died Saturday night at his daughter Bessie Richardson's home. He was born July 36 1837 in Sweetwater Town. Survivors include wife Hal ties three daughters Ada Jordan Minden Ethel Richardson Bolt Bessie Richardson and one son R D Jones Hackensack N J. Body at Evans Funeral Home in Oceana.
A son Toney Ray was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Newcomb at Wilkinson Clinic Pineville on Oct 30. Mrs. Lee Cook suffers pneumonia at Stevens Clinic Hospital. Lee Cook remains home ill. Several Baileysville residents and their families, including Newcomb, Cook, Miller, Shields, Nexwcomb, Flannagan, Stevens, Forren, Hatfield, and others, enjoyed weekend visits from kin across Mill Creek Green Sulphur Beelick Knob Brenton and Beasleyville.
Eight area residents have been notified they will become American citizens in a Fayette County ceremony set for November 13 in the Fayetteville court room. Names include Eleanor Shawkey Oak Hill born in England Stella Zastawnek Scarbro born in Poland Hilda Snell Oak Hill born in England Carl Anderson Rainelle born in Sweden Josephine Pogorzelski Scarbro born in Czechoslovakia Lenore Babijak Montgomery born in Hungary Anna Ignatovich Oak Hill born in Lithuania.
Funeral services for John Woodrow Thomas 45 of 202 Sanford St will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Baptist Church. Burial at High Lawn Memorial Park. Thomas died Sunday of a heart attack at home after a life in the theater industry and military service in World War II. He leaves his mother and siblings.
In Whitesville and surrounding communities the Boone County Boy Scout drive shows progress toward an $8560 goal. Treasurer Harry Green reports $3000 raised so far, with about $5560 expected by month end. Local leaders include Charles Holland, Don Weaver, Sam Tackett, and Rev V A Vene, with kickoff Oct 7 in Madison led by M L Johnson urging broad community support.
Dr and Mrs J A Robinson of Highland Ave announce the birth of their daughter weighing seven pounds four ounces Tuesday night at Beckley Hospital. The baby is named du Anne and the mother is former Nancy Hughes daughter of Mr and Mrs E P Hughes of South Mullens.
The Public Service Commission approved the sale of the New River and Pocahontas water system in Fayettes County to the Minden Water Company. The $5,000 purchase serves 323 customers in Minden and Kaymoor with monthly rates including 2 to 1 5000 gallons and block rates, plus fixed charges for dwellings, churches, and commercial connections.
William Lyle Piper 72 of 401 North Third Street died after a three week illness in Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb 18 1885 in Jonesboro Tenn son of the late Carlos H Piper and Edie Mahoney Piper. He is survived by his wife Virginia Sue Boggess son Lyle B Summersville sister Mrs Charles C Wall of Charlton and three grandchildren. Funeral services are set for 2 30 p m Tuesday at the First Christian Church Princeton with Rev Norman Crawford. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The body will be taken from Memorial Funeral Directory to the home at 4 30 p m today.
George Hayden Bailey 80 of Neola Greenbrier County died in a Charleston hospital after an influenza attack. He had been ill two weeks and relapsed after hospitalization. A Colcord native, he served as Raleigh County deputy sheriff about 23 years ago and as a justice of the peace in Clear Fork District. He ran a Colcord grocery before moving to a Greenbrier County farm 22 years ago.
A fish and oyster fry is planned for 7 30 p.m. Saturday at Odd Fellows Hall East Oak Hill. Proceeds fund redecorating the lodge hall. Attendees included Mrs L Ine Millon Mrs Modena Sexton Mrs Alice Colter and others. The body of the deceased lies at Valley Funeral Home Whitesville pending arrangements.

The engagement of Miss Jeanne Sparks to Airman Eugene Divo is announced by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Waddy Sparks of McComas. Miss Sparks, a McComas High School graduate, resides with her sister Mrs. Archie Repass in Hatcher. Divo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Dillé of Roperston, graduated from Oceana High School last May, enlisted in the Air Force, and is stationed at 2 Nebraska Air Force base. Plans are for a Christmas wedding.
Four first grade students focused on color word learning to follow coloring instructions. The sequence lists Nancy Carol Sum as one of the absorbing learners in this reading activity.
New officers were elected at a Fayette County Society for Crippled Children and Adults meeting in Oak Hill. M. H. Martin was named president, Mrs. Sybil McPherson vice president, Mrs. Mary F. Taylor secretary treasurer, and Wallace Bennett past president. The group favored mailed letters as income and discussed more frequent meetings.
A special Veterans Day program at Sherman High School Seth Whitesville featured Emmett Stine as guest speaker and new stage lighting by former student John Moses Whitesville. The event included performances by the Sherman High School Band Intermediate Band and Glee Club directed by Ray Viers Antionette Pontier and Beulah Price.
Proceeds from the Dorothy Elementary school carnival Saturday night totaled about $300. The fish pond and fortune telling booth drew the most patrons. Dart game was popular with children. adults favored upstairs kitchen offerings. Prizes went to Byrd Pettry, Anne Fannin, Lovell Belcher, and G L Kincaid.
