Oak Hill plans a public hearing Tuesday November 26 to consider a Home Rule charter. The meeting will allow protests to the plan, which was crafted by a charter board and approved by the state attorney general. If voters approve, the charter takes effect July 1, 1947.
In Fayetteville the Board of Education race between W. H. Haynes and J. A Alfred Taylor remained tight after a county recheck shows Taylor leading by 86 votes 5419 to 5333. Officials plan an official canvass by the County Court on Monday November 11 with no immediate decision on a recount.
Mrs. Lee Coleman of Cincinnati, formerly from this section, has been a patient in Montgomery hospital for several days and is reported in critical condition. She was brought by ambulance to Montgomery from Cincinnati, where she has lived for many years.
A 1933 Chevrolet sedan carrying four youths overturned between Oak Hill and Whipple. The driver fled after the crash, leaving the car and sending bystanders to view the wreck. Jack Stinson of Whipple and three others were located. no serious injuries reported. Police had not filed a report on the incident by morning.
An unofficial recheck of Fayette County returns in the U S Senate race shows Kilgore by a narrow margin over Sweeney. Updated precinct figures put Kilgore at 6483 votes to Sweeney 6483, with Kilgore leading by a small county margin. The State Supreme Court race results favor Haymond over Miller by 4,970 in Fayette.
Oak Hill Rotary Club announces a four week forum series titled Is Cooperation Possible starting February 17 1947. Four international affairs experts will speak February 17 24 and March 3 10 at Oak Hill High School auditorium with net proceeds aiding the local school band’s 7000 instrument fund.
Fayetteville officials laud postal employees for aiding the annual Christmas Seal Sale of the Fayette County Tuberculosis Association. R J Thrift thanks Postmaster R C Godsey and sends lapel pins to distribute among staff, noting the mail system's twofold role in issuing seals and reminding the public of the cause. The letter recounts the history of Christmas Seals since 1904 and 1907 and commends post office staff for their cooperation during the busy season.
MOUNT HOPE The Lions Club plans a December football banquet to honor the Mount Hope grid squad coaches managers and cheerleaders.Club officers discussed arrangements with a speaker from West Virginia University and university faculty members Henry Danner and Sam Mandich. The meeting also noted a two day eyeglasses clinic funded by the Lions blind fund and reported Mount Hope Stadium attendance and receipts as the largest since construction.
Oak Hill Lions Club names a four member committee to explore forming new clubs in Fayette County. S. D. Morton G. G. Kincaid C. P. White Roy D. Jenkins named to investigate possibilities. New members join committees including civic improvement Joe J. Garges Roy H. Scott safety James P. Painter N. M. Steen military and Charles D. James citizenship and Patriotism. Paul F. Mackey returns as song leader. Joe N. Jarrett chairs health and welfare. R. N. Noyes chairs citizenship and patriotism.
The announcement from Mr and Mrs Low eL Canada of Maben states their daughter was born at their home on Wednesday afternoon. This is the couple’s third child.

Glen Fork resident Henry Shumate of Glen Fork died at Pinecrest Sanatorium early this morning. The body remains at Robertson-Fossesong Funeral Home until arrangements are completed. The article notes historical practices where 18th and 19th century surgeons used alcohol or opium as anesthesia.
