Sailor and Family Return After Hawaii Years
Elizabeth Williams reports on Lt. Robert G. Shawl and his wife and young daughter Cynthia Lynn who spent three years in Hawaii. He served at Pearl Harbor while she worked as a civilian secretary. The couple adapted Western life to island culture, noting Hawaii's blend of American modernization with Oriental influences and the warmth of Aloha. They plan to settle in San Diego where Shawl will enter naval welding school, and the family will spend six months in the mainland after their island sojourn.
