Mrs. Swoope to Blacksburg after death of her mother Grace Ellen Swoope aged 68. Mrs. Murl Lawson of Poplar Street convalescing from double pneumonia, homebound for 100 days.

Kerlin from Charleston for a weekend visit. Kerlin accompanied his wife to visit their daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Fred Murdock and Mr. and Mrs. David Erskine of Welch dined with Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Two Wyoming Countians received hospital care in Beckley this past week. Mrs. W. K. McClure of Lusk Avenue was treated for head injuries after falling down a flight of steps early Sunday, and D. L. Stidam was treated for a broken arm.

Athens Baptist Church marks 61st anniversary
The Athens Baptist church celebrated its 61st anniversary with special services led by Dr. Hugh D. Pickett executive secretary of the West Virginia Baptist Convention. Mrs. Scott Rogers of Elgood recalled the church’s founding on Oct. 28, 1887 during morning worship, and Rev. George L. Cutlip delivered the sermon Traditions with special male choir music. Dr. Pickett was to be guest speaker at 7 p.m.
