Canada to Get Anik Satellite Launch for North Telephony
UPI reports NASA will launch Canada's first communications satellite Anik next week from Cape Kennedy. Built by Hughes, Anik weighs 1,238 pounds and will relay up to 9,600 two way telephone calls and 10 color telecasts. Telesat Canada funds the $6.5 million launch and plans extensive ground stations across Toronto Vancouver Montreal and Arctic sites for relay to the south and sparsely populated north. A second satellite is planned for next year to complete the network.
