U S Cancels Two Major Contracts
Rome reports the United States canceled 25 million dollars in contracts with firms employing Communist workers. A 7.5 million dollar Piaggio shipyard contract in Palermo for a 1500 ton destroyer escort was withdrawn and an 18 million dollar ammunition contract with Officina Vittorio Meccanica near Milan was canceled two months earlier. The move follows Communist claims that workers would vote Communist in factory elections and still receive U S aid. An American quoted said the U S does not subsidize Communists.
