Roane County Won't Benefit From Legislature, Morford Says
Spencer West Virginia rural school superintendent Alan V. Morford of Roane County criticizes the recent special Legislature for not raising teachers’ salaries. He notes the new law pushes higher local tax assessments and maintenance costs while Roane’s assessed value is only 5.32 percent of true value. He warns Kanawha County and others may gain, but Roane rural counties could face little relief and possibly raise urban valuations to align with rural and industrial properties.
