Four Die in Boone County Mine Collapse
A slate fall at the Wharton No. 2 mine in Boone County, West Virginia, on Wednesday killed four men. Two others escaped by diving under mining equipment, one of whom was injured. Dead are William Bain about 34 a section foreman James Stone about 36 and Harry Hartman about 28 all of Uneeda and two other identified workers.

Monday Blaze Destroys Retired Miner's Home
A two story frame house owned by 74 year old G. C. Treadway at Glen Jean burned Monday with no effort to fight the flames. Neighbors watched as the eight room home burned in under an hour leaving the retired miner homeless after his wife died in December. He was visiting relatives in Mount Hope when the fire occurred.
