Bottling Trucks Cross Picket Line At Beckley Plant

Trucks driven by supervisory employees of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. of Beckley crossed the picket line set by former plant workers after five drivers and two employees left May 15 in a dispute over commissions. The drivers, not yet union members, recently joined the Teamsters Union which seeks representation. H. P. Hunnicutt of Princeton, company president, will not negotiate with the union on commissions as workers acted independently. Drivers request a two cent per case raise and a relief sorter. Pepsi-Cola says commissions equal to area peers, with one firm paying a cent more and another a cent less. Hunnicutt is in Charleston to settle the matter. All shipments since May 15 had been from the Princeton plant prior to today, with trucks departing the Beckley plant on the 1921 By-Pass.
