Funeral services for Miss Bernice J. Dickenson, 42, will be at 2 p m Sunday at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Elder Willie Eldridge of Capels officiating. Burial follows in Greenwood Memorial Park. She died at 8:30 a m Tuesday at her employers home, Mr and Mrs Reginald Meyers, 110 Locust Dr, after a heart attack. Born October 23 1916 at Laurel Creek, she was a daughter of the late W J and Harrett Dickenson. The body will be removed from Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor to the church one hour before the service.

Darius Adkins, 47, of Beaver, was hospitalized at Raleigh General Hospital at 8:30 a m after telling city police he was struck by a train near the Beckley Newspapers Building on Prince Street. He was x rayed and held for observation and treatment. Police cited the train crew saying they passed him lying beside the tracks and stopped the train on the return pass.

A flash flood hit Cass Wednesday night from 7 to 10 PM causing extensive damage. Homes and roads suffered, bridges on back mountain roads washed away, power and telephone lines out, and several residents evacuated. The Mower Lumber Co lumber pond washed away halting mill workers. water remains under the mill. The Jasper Pennington residence lost its back porch and foundation while the Wallace Dill family evacuated to a barn. Dill reported a loss of about 700 bushels of corn and a corn crib destroyed by floodwaters.
