Scout Committee Named Following Lions Picnic

Mount Hope Lions Club held its season’s first picnic on club grounds with about fifty members present. George Williams presided as president. after a business session, horseshoe contests crowned high scorers Fred Frisk Bud Jennings and Bob McIntire. Boy Scout Troop 91 reorganization was announced with Dwight Warnock as chairman and assignments for camping, training, health, and reports, plus plans for Camp Cliftop MecClville. An open meeting June 2 in the Junior High Corral Room invites former scouts and 12 to 15 year olds to join.

Memorial Day services by Post 104 of the American Legion on the Mount Hope High School campus begin at 2 p.m. with a brief parade, band selections, and a program featuring Reverend speakers, floral tributes, and a firing squad salute to fallen war dead.

Stores in Mullens To Close Monday

Mullens Chamber of Commerce president Claude Cook says most stores will close Monday for Memorial Day. A minority of merchants will stay open and those closing Monday will operate all day Wednesday instead of closing at noon as usual.

Funeral services for Polly Ann Davis 82 of North Spring near Justice will be held Sunday afternoon at the homes of her daughters Mrs Vedin tester in North Spring and Mrs Glanden in Baisden with Reverends Wirt Hatfield Eph Cline officiating. Burial follows in the family cemetery at Baisden. Thompson Funeral To Be Held Today for Amazi Thompson

Funeral services for Amazi Chris Thompson, 43, of Mullens, will be held at 1 p m today at Robertson Fogelsong Funeral Home in Mullens with Rev Grover Currie officiating. Burial is expected at Wildwood Cemetery Beckley. He was born in Wellston Ohio to Laura Belle Thompson and the late Edward Thompson. Survivors include his wife Isabel Thompson two sons Gary Edward and Warren Lee two daughters Delores Ann and Linda Rae a brother Edward Thompson of Charleston and two sisters Reda Levich Sophia and Edith Hollingshead Toledo.

Greer Body Returns Home From Warrensville Burial

The 62 year old Gro-Giver Greer was found dead in a W M Ritter Lumber camp near Coal Mountain and died of a suspected heart attack. Friends arranged for burial in Warrensville North Carolina as family stated he had been in poor health and had left town about a week earlier seeking a western destination.

Mullens Church to Hold Memorial Services Sunday

The Rev C R Bright of First Methodist Church announces special Memorial services this Sunday at 11 am. Two members who died recently will be commemorated, C V Dailey and H F Hartley. The sermon titled Their Works Do Follow Them and a litany will be read, with a white flower placed at the altar for each name.
