Unrecognized Carriers Of Polio Highlight Major Problem

The State Health Department official said for every known polio case there are about 100 carriers who can transmit the disease. Personal contact is seen as the likely spread method, and schools may close during gutbreaks to limit child contacts. Dr Kenneth Landauer expressed optimism that research will solve polio and that preventive measures will be developed, including epidemic preparedness with iron lungs and emergency teams.

Body Of State Man Recovered In Ohio

The body of Robert T. Melton of Winfield West Virginia, mate of the river steamer Joe Cook, was recovered from the Ohio River yesterday, 47 days after the Ravenswood explosion wrecked the vessel. Identification rested on a ring with his initials and a belt containing 150 dollars. Two other men were killed in the blast at Ravenswood on March 31, and their bodies were recovered shortly after.
