Gov Arch A Moore Jr and State Road Commission engineers will hold a public hearing at Chester on June 24 at 7 30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall to discuss building a bridge over the Ohio River to replace the closed Chester bridge linking Chester with East Liverpool Ohio. The hearing follows a report that the bridge is unsafe. Rhodes and Moore have conferred on toll bridge plans with two localities considered.
An investment group announces plans to build eight nursing homes across West Virginia at an estimated cost of 688 million dollars. Dr Richard V Lynch president of Professional Investment Corp says construction on the first 1 million facility at Fairmont will begin in a few weeks. The project will create about 400 jobs and teams with Four-Seasons Nursing Homes of America to develop in Parkersburg Moundsville Wheeling Clarksburg Huntington Elkins Charleston and Fairmont.
The Secret Service says four suspects were arrested in Manhattan for counterfeiting two and a half million six-cent postage stamps. The stamps total face value is $150,000. Names were not released and arraignment was set for today.
New York education editor Fred Hechinger appeared briefly on NET during an Apollo broadcast when a bad telephone switch caused a momentary TV anomaly. Hechinger, alive in New York, later said he heard from many old friends and fans after the surprise on screen.
Reports list several recent deaths from gas well drilling accidents in Kanawha County. James O Neal of Marianna, Bernard B Stewart of Pineville, and Roger Altizer of Pineville are all noted as deceased. Bodies lie at Robertson and Foglesong Funeral Home in Pineville.

Glenville State College called off a Thursday boycott of classes after president D Banks Wilburn responded to a student group list of grievances. About 75 students had demanded action, citing concerns over campus security facilities and hiring practices.
An Air Force sergeant, Paul Adams Meyer, 23, from Poquoson Virginia, seized a C130 Hercules at Mildenhall England and vanished over the Atlantic. U S and British planes searched with radar and no trace found nine hours after takeoff. Authorities said the 60 ton aircraft carried enough fuel for the long flight and was out of radar contact.
West Virginia officials awarded two two mile strip contracts to R&S Gas and Oil of Charleston for Ohio River bed exploration. Gov. Arch Moore Jr. announced bids from three firms, with high potential oil or gas yields cited by Assistant Atty. Gen. Larry Skeen. Contracts aim to protect state property and maximize revenue if resources are found.
Charleston based report says eighty one coal plants must install pollution control equipment by fall 1970. The commission expects coal dust reductions of 70 to 80 percent once the projects are in place. Fifteen plants will operate controls this year. Amherst Coal Co expects two Logan County plants to comply. Herbert Jones of Charleston chairs the commission. Kingwood Mining Co failed to register but will be required to meet rules. In Charleston a clean air advocate silenced lobbyist Fred Tucker of Weirton during a State Air Pollution Control Commission hearing on open burnings. Dr. J B Buff y labeled Tucker a well known lobbyist who helped remove clean air standards from the 1967 act. Tucker, who also faced questions about White House meetings, remained mute as Kaufman urged WV to avoid Kentucky’s weaker air rules and to push stronger pollution controls.
Miss Mary M Dunn, a 22 year old former airline stewardess, became Cabell County assistant prosecuting attorney the past Thursday, the first woman to hold the post. Michael S Divas was named alongside her.
West Virginia parks and crests will be open and operational by May 34 with Memorial Day expected to bring unprecedented crowds. Director T R Samell of the Department of Natural Resources announced today.
