Oak Hill Methodist Groups Install Officers At Meeting

Oak Hill Methodist Church hosts an installation of officers for the Womens Society of Christian Service and the Wesleyan Service Guild. Dr C G Fastwood officiated with Miss Ann Flack. Officers include Mrs R W Flack president and Mrs J K Gallaher president of the Guild, with numerous clerical and youth posts listed. About 45 members attended the gathering with social hour hosted by the Belle Bennett Circle.

Rev Carl King Injured in Mine Accident Near Whitesville

The Rev Carl King of Oak Hill fractured his femur in a mining accident about 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Carbon Fuel Company mine near Oak Hill. He was buried under slate for about an hour and a half before an ambulance took him to Oak Hill Hospital. A hospital spokesman listed his condition as good.

Mullens Lions to Install Officers at Ladies Night

Newly elected Mullens Lions Club officers will be installed at the June 27 Ladies Night dinner in Currie Hall at the First Presbyterian Church. Retiring president Ray Davis will appoint a committee to arrange the annual affair and secure a guest speaker to install the officers. new officers include Jack Feller president Charles Bailey first vice president Boyne Dushkoff second vice president James Kuhike third vice president Lee Hodson secretary Paul Viers treasurer Dewey McKinney lion tamer Elbert Cook tail twisters W F Staats and Cecil Lacy directors for two years. Keld over members are Big Minter and Dr J A Robinson. Elbert Cook, Jack Feller, and Jim Pendleton were elected as delegates to the State Convention at Wheeling in June.

Guild Girls Fete Mothers With Banquet At Calvary Church

Miss Rosetta Wilson led a Mother Daughter Banquet at Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill. Sharon Phillips gave welcome remarks and the Guild Girls sang, with history by Sharon Ballard and the 23rd Guild Girl Anniversary song. A skit featured Wilson and several others, followed by the Guild Covenant and the closing Go Forward song.

Acord Services Slated Thursday for James L Acord

Funeral services for James Leonard Len Acord 67 will be held Thursday at 11 a m at Rockview Church with Rev Orville Belcher officiating. Burial is in Cook Cemetery Rockview. Acord died of natural causes and was found dead in his Wyoming County home Tuesday afternoon.

Honorary Degree To Be Bestowed On West Virginia Governor

West Virginia Institute of Technology will award an honorary Doctor of Law to Governor Underwood at the 37th commencement ceremony. President W B Axtell will confer the degree and the governor will deliver the address. The event opens at 2 p m in the college gymnasium with 98 degrees and certificates to be granted. An informal reception follows in the men's dorm lounge.

Baptist Pastor to Be Feted on 12th Anniversary

The New Hope Baptist Church marks the 12th anniversary of Rev. C. M. Ellis as pastor with a full weekend program. Pre anniversary services begin at 7 p.m. with Deacons leading devotions and Rev. Ed Cradl delivering the message. Musical selections come from multiple choirs including Brooklyn, Price Hill, and Minden. Several church members are listed as participants and hosts for the Thursday and Friday services. An all day Sunday program features Mer Ellis delivering the morning sermon, dinner at 1 p.m., and an afternoon service at 3 p.m. with guest minister Rev. W. J. New Navy Recruiter Comes To Whitesville

The Navy assigns Hinton W. Curtright Engine man First Class as the new recruiter for the Whitesville area. He will visit Whitesville every Tuesday to assist enlistment and provide service information. Curtright, a 17 year Navy veteran, recently completed the Recruit Procurement School in San Diego. His wife Vera and three sons Guy Lynn and Kevin will join him in Charleston after the school term.

Oak Hill Republican Woman's Club installed two new officers at City Hall ceremonies. Corsages were presented by retiring president Mrs. Charles Wigin to Mrs. J. R. Tit Jones Trial Set In September

Clarence Tit Jones and James Henry Huffman were indicted on a breaking and entering charge by the Lum Lees County Grand Jury. Circuit Judge Nickell Kramer granted Jones a continuance to the September term. Jones posted 2000 dollars bond and was released. Huffman could not post bond and remained in Summers County Jail with no date set for his trial.

Camporee Attended by 382 Scouts and Leaders

About 382 Boy Scouts Explorers and Leaders from 25 units in Chief Cornstalk Council attended the annual Camporee at Camp Chief Logan May 17 to 19. Thomas E. Davis led as camporee chief with training themes and sessions for junior leader skills.

Labor Hearing Resumes in Summersville West Virginia

A labor hearing resumed today before District Judge Charles L. Garvin Jr. in Summersville. The proceeding stems from a request by Terry Eagle Coal Co. of Belva Nicholas County for an injunction against United Mine Workers District 17 and 24 pickets organizing the mine near Lockwood.

Fire Burns Ansted Main Street Store for Second Time

Ansted sees its business district hit by fire for the second time in four days as Stanley’s T. G. A. Store on main street is gutted Monday night. Firefighters responded at 7 20 p m and battled the blaze for over an hour, ruining grocery stock and causing smoke and water damage to the building owned by Mrs Will Doitz.

Coleman Rites Set Thursday

Funeral services for Henry Melvin Coleman 36 will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Dothan Community Church with Rev. Clyde Harler officiating. Burial is in Coleman Cemetery. Coleman died at his Dothan home after a heart attack. He worked for Somet Solvay Coal Co in Kingston and was a Dothan Community Church member. He was born November 12, 1900, in Dothan. Survivors include wife Thelma Pearl Williams Coleman two brothers Homer and Charlie two sisters Mrs. James Fisher and Mrs. Lester Lively two sons Carlos and Howard seven daughters Peggy Brinson Drema Coen Helen Shirley Mildred Janice and Sandra Coleman ten grandchildren. The body rests at Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill and will be moved to the church one hour before services. Nephews will be pallbearers.
