His back was broken and both legs mangled, leading to amputations. Plans for a $400000 building program on the old D Howe Johnston estate in Charleston were announced by Col R C Slaughter. Architects for Appalachian Electric Power and Croft Syndicate are drafting plans for a corner Kanawha and Howe Street office and other structures including a 50 by 150 foot two story brick building and a shirt plant. Eighteen modern homes costing 5000 to 8000 dollars each will be built on the estate with air conditioning and built in garages. The Johnston home will be moved and converted into a modern apartment house after foundation work begins and borings have started for the power company buildings.
