State Buys Pinecrest Sanatorium Grounds and Expands
The Pinecrest sanitarium grounds will be beautified as part of a state purchase. Dr. Jarrell said the project will make the facility one the state and Beckley citizens can be proud. About 150 to 200 visitors toured the renovated building for National Hospital Day, viewing x rays of normal and tubercular lungs. The institution spent 21000 on upgrades, and 300 fruit trees plus vines and berries were planted. Capacity rose from 126 to 145 by converting spaces and adding five beds, though a large waiting list remains.
