New Law Leaves County Mental Health Practices Unchanged
Raleigh County will not change its handling of mentally ill persons with a new state law effective June 8. Sheriff John C. Ward says existing practice already aligns with the law, allowing guardianship home placement or release to relatives while awaiting state hospital admission. The law broadens options to protect patients and families, with hearings often not required for the mentally ill and guardians or attorneys able to attend.
