Corrections on Raleigh County campaign expenditure reports

The Raleigh Register clarifies two filing errors in the local race report. Lorena Wallace of District II Justice of the Peace did file expenditures but after the deadline with no contributions and $131.36 spent. Alex Jim Childers for District ID Constable actually spent $194.69, not $1,954.69.

Voters urged to use pre marked sample ballots at polls

The secretary of state urged voters to carry pre marked sample ballots to polling places. Polls will run 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. EDT with the 7:30 closing time strictly observed. An attorney general opinion states no votes may be cast after 7:30. Bean urged voters to vote early to avoid last minute crowds.

Repairs Seen For Elmore Bridge At Itmann

Del Warren McGraw told Mullens Junior High students that Elmore bridge on Rt. 10 would be repaired this construction season. He quoted Gov Arch Moore Jr noting a two lane bridge spanning Guyandotte River and N W railroad is planned once track issues are resolved. The dirt road to Twin Falls Park will be hard surfaced this summer.

Final rites for Mrs Hawkins and three others set

Final rites were announced for Mrs Modena Hawkins 60 of Allen Junction Elder Aubrey Dean Pack 56 of Cool Ridge and Mrs Ida Walker 82 of Mabscott with services planned Tuesday. Youngster Struck By Car In Beckley In Good Condition

Ten year old Dwight Bright of 304 Maplewood Lane remained in good condition in the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital ICU after being hit by a car on South Fayette Street Sunday night. Freddie C Williams, 30, of Lansing Michigan, was charged with drunken driving. his 1972 model car caused 54 foot skid marks and $150 damage. Williams posted bond and was released.
