Father of the Year Award to be Named by Mt Hope Lions

Mt Hope Lions Club plans to honor a local man as Father of the Year with a dinner meeting and committee to select the recipient. Officials and delegates named for the state convention include Henry Danner and C R Harns barger. A Ladies Night event is scheduled for May 22 with dinner and entertainment.

Garden Club Plans New Project at Meet

Mt Hope Garden Club selects beautification of Mt Hope Elementary School grounds as its new project. Members meet at Mrs George E Williams home with delegates to the State Convention and a program by Mrs F L Foster on flowers and new varieties. A guest, Mrs John Scott, attends. In Stickney, Joe Clyburn sustains eye injury while striking a hatchet with a chain. he is hospitalized and may lose sight in the eye.

Jones Funeral Services Today

Funeral services for Charles Raymond Jones age 50 of Layland will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chestnut Knob Church with burial in Leyland Cemetery. A miner, he worked for Laurel Smokeless Coal Co. Survived by wife Ada Dean Redden Jones and four sons and three daughters, with siblings also listed as survivors. Born March 26, 1899, in Greenbrier County.

Mrs. Dorothy Gast 33 Dies in Beckley Hospital

Mrs Dorothy Lee Gast 33 of Forest Hills Mt Hope died Monday afternoon after six months illness in a Beckley hospital. Funeral Thursday at 3 pm Mt Hope Presbyterian Church with Rev W W Pharr officiating. Burial at High Lawn Memorial Park Oak Hill. Miss Hash Weds Hugh B. Drake In Pineville

In Pineville, Hugh Bea Drake and Loretta Dane Hash wed in a single ring ceremony on Thursday May 1 at 7:20 p.m. Rev. Harry N. Stevens officiated at the home of her uncle and aunt. The bride wore a blue and rose suit with rose accessories and a white carnation corsage. Best man was Raye Drake of Oceana. Hash, educated in Victoria Virginia, previously worked for Virginia Telephone Co. and moved to Pineville with her parents in 1944. Drake is the son of Durell Drake of Iberia Virginia, a Roanoke Business College graduate and former paratrooper with the 308th in Europe. The couple honeymooned in Bristol Tennessee and Ponts in Virginia.

Bradley Lions Club welcomed Joe Malago Warren Richards and Robert Forren as new members at a Mt Hope led dinner event. International Councilor W D Lawton introduced Lions ethics and duties while J A Blackburn led the meeting. Postponement Granted in Osteopath Case in Wyoming Circuit

Judge D M Easley granted a 30 day postponement in the medical doctors versus osteopaths case, allowing more time for briefs. The suit, brought by the West Virginia Medical Licensing Board and five county physicians, challenges Dr Glenn E Cobb of Oceana. Other osteopaths in Wyoming County are listed. Also disposed were four divorces and a compromise with Pipeline Construction Company for Viola Russell damages of 1500 after a school bus truck collision.
