U S Olympic Committee predicts strongest team ever for Tokyo 1964
U S Olympic Committee President Tug Wilson said only about 25 percent of Pan American Games medalists would compete in the 1964 Olympics. He projected the Tokyo team would be the strongest ever, noting U S performances in Sao Paulo showed potential despite gaps in several sports. The Pan American Games closed with the U S earning 109 golds, near the Chicago record, and with notable gymnastics and wrestling successes, but disappointments in track, yachting, boxing, and some boxing decisions. The Games concluded with ceremonies and a call to Winnipeg for 1967.
