Bill on Education Set for Passage in Senate Today
The Senate reviews a $300 million Federal education aid bill with a plan to strip funds from about half the states. Senator Tydings urges targeting aid to states with below average per pupil spending, while opponents warn the move could kill the bill. An attempted civil rights amendment failed 65 to 16, a vote that critics said would bar Negro and white schools alike from funding.
