Fabius' Derby Outlook Unchanged By Victory
Louisville dispatch notes 17 horses expected to enter the 82nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs with Needles still seen as the horse to beat. Calumet Farm's Fabius, after a Derby Trial mile in 1 36.86, strengthens the field but trainers largely agree Needles remains the favorite ahead of Countermand Career Boy Head Man and Black Emperor in the run for 125000 added purses and a 167400 gross.

VMI Withdraws as Host of AAU Track Meet
In Lexington Virginia VMI withdrew as cohost of the 1956 state AAU track meet after a ruling declared William and Mary track athletes ineligible for AAU competition.
