Board Approves Building Plans And Additions

Raleigh County Board of Education and Building Advisory Committee approved preliminary sketches for building projects at Midway, Trap Hill No 13, Shady Spring, Beckley Junior High and other sites. Final approvals will follow principal reviews. plans target readiness around July 1 with constructions including four room Midway and Trap Hill additions, and three story Shady Spring expansion.

Raleigh County Young Republican Club will name delegates at its May meeting for the 1950 West Virginia Young Republican League state convention. The August 4 6 dates were set by the State Executive Committee as Mrs Eugene Scott reported no endorsements for the primary. WV Highway Deaths Reach Highest Month Since 1948

West Virginia reports 42 highway fatalities last month, the most since October 1948, bringing year to date deaths to 104. In 1949, year to date deaths stood at 92. Agriculture officials delayed a decision on a Morgantown livestock auction market request by Andrew Hess after a hearing. The opposition argued the area could not support another market. A two day meeting of the State Association of Life Underwriters will start in Charleston with Insurance Commissioner Crichton and Prudential’s Rutherford as speakers.

Russian rocket bases in Arctic and Baltic areas revealed

Victor Martynuk, a 33 year old escapee from a Soviet concentration camp, says Russia built rocket installations aimed at Alaska, Norway and Sweden in the Arctic and Baltic regions. He disclosed the operations through his attorney Ivan Crap and is held in Montgomery County Jail as a residency bill moves through Congress. Mine Officials Beaten By Furloughed Men

A mine superintendent and an Island Creek Coal Company engineer were beaten by a large group of furloughed miners amid layoffs at mines 24 25 and 26 in Rockhouse near Delbarton. About 3 000 workers were idle as authorities were asked to restore order. Superintendent BE W Stepp of Mine 26 reportedly suffered a broken jaw and other injuries while Mack Shumate sustained unspecified injuries. The workers objected to layoff by sections rather than by seniority. no grievance had been filed.

James K Price 91 dies after illness in Gretna Va

James K Price 91 of 324 City Avenue died in a local hospital at 4 45 am today after an extended illness. Funeral at 2 pm tomorrow at St James Episcopal Church Gretna with burial in the church cemetery. Born Taylorsville NC December 31 1858 he was a former farmer and feed dealer who lived in Raleigh County before moving to Gretna.
