Earnest Robertson age 47 of Lester will be honored Tuesday at 1 p m at St Matthew AME Church Lester with Revs M M Mitchell Sterling Green and J B Walker officiating. Burial follows at Greenwood Cemetery. He died in a local hospital Friday after a long illness. The body lies in state at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor awaiting visitation after 3 p m today and will be transported to the church one hour before services.

Mingo Drivers Continue Strike

Mingo County bus drivers remain on strike after declining the school board’s ultimatum to return Tuesday. Union official Laverne Copley says entering school property would be contempt of court as the board enforces an injunction curbing trespass and picketing on campuses. The board rejects a $71 monthly raise and refuses to recognize cooks, custodians, and maintenance staff in the district.

West Virginia Highway Toll Rises With Weekend Deaths

Over the weekend three men and two women died in West Virginia road crashes raising the 1969 toll to 134 deaths, up from 95 at the same time last year. Victims include Edna Gillispie 22 of Mason County and others from Parkersburg Wetzel and McDowell counties in sequence of crashes and injuries.
