Oak Hill Rotary to Sponsor Horse Show This Spring

Oak Hill Rotary Club plans a horse show May 31 to June 2 at Thompson's Starnight arena. Students Learn Full Journalism Course to be Offered at Tech

Four year journalism program with A B degrees approved at West Virginia Institute of Technology to commence next year. The plan follows a 16th scholastic journalism clinic with about 300 attendees from Southern West Virginia. Key speakers included Claude Cubbon Calvin Price Kelvin Tolliday and Henry LaCossitt. Representatives from Oak Hill joined the event with a group of students and advisers.

1389 Members Enrolled In 61 Fayette 4-H Clubs

Fayetteville reports 1389 county youths enrolled in 4-H clubs across 61 Fayette clubs. Miss Cliffen pole County bed Club inter agent notes three more clubs expected to form after a Cleveland clinic. New clubs include Climbers led by Lavell Huttman and family, with Janet Miller as president and Mary James Thompson as secretary treasurer. Members from eight families vacationed in Florida, while Billy Ray Cole leads at Duke University.

Damage suit filed in Pineville over January collision

A damage suit is on file in Wyoming circuit court against D. O. Sweeney and Reed at Allen Junction following a January 17 accident when a truck owned by Sweeney, driven by a Negro youth, struck Reed’s parked car. The case seeks $900 damages in Payetteville.

Funeral services set for Clarence Watson Wheeler

Clarence Wheeler 62 of Mullens died yesterday after a three week illness attributed to asthma. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at Narrows Virginia Methodist Church with burial in Fair View Cemetery. He was a retired Virginian Railway shop employee born in Bland County and lived in Mullens since 1928. Survived by widow Eva Clay Wheeler, son Lake Wheeler of Mullens Hill, two daughters Mrs J C McCreary Beckley and Mrs Stanley Nelson Pontiac Mich, stepson Curtis Clark, and brother Charley Wheeler Narrows.

Minnows Offer Mystery in Lerner Lab Fish Tests

A Lerner Marine Laboratory experiment dumped 1000 minnows into a pen with 300 hungry fish. The minnows disappeared within minutes while the larger fish swarmed, then 999 unbaited minnows plus one hooked baited minnow were released. The hooked minnow vanished instantly, leaving the baited one swimming. Researchers seek explanation of instant selection and related mysteries.

Marie Annette McLean a 24 year old WAVE attached to the U S Navy Band serves as chief yeoman with clerical duties while also singing with its dance and concert bands.
