Gazette Denies Editorial Motivated By Dislike of Marland Administration
The Charleston Gazette editor testified in a Pineville libel suit that an Aug 5 1955 editorial was not motivated by dislike of the Marland administration. The $100000 suit is brought by J Paul England a Pineville legislator and teacher. England and others claim the editorial falsely linked him to voting for the Marland administration in exchange for state insurance business. Trial began in Wyoming Circuit Court with England Bowles and Horner Jr. as witnesses for the plaintiff. Gazette executives Knight and Hoffman testified for the defense.
