Beckley College orders new fashion rules for male students. Hair must be trimmed, shoes without sex prohibited, and ties required. Dean of Men Green B. Horton cites complaints about “lousy haircuts” as the motive for the dress code enforced by the Student Government.
Crowds gather as the Selma to Montgomery march proceeds along U S 80 heading toward the state capital. Hundreds join a 100 man group on the highway of hope. Officials estimate tens of thousands will meet in front of the Alabama Capitol on Thursday to press for voter rights and face Gov. Wallace.

The House rushed a $6 billion medical care bill through the Ways & Means Committee, including higher Social Security benefits and Johnson's elderly health program. Demolition will clear space for formal gardens around the Mother's Day Church, formerly Andrews Methodist, with total plans around $1 million pending federal approval. The first service at the church was held in 1907.
A Surrey thermometer maker, Geoffrey Liddiard, will win more than $842,800 for correctly choosing football pool winners at Littlewoods Pools Co. The sum is a record, and Liddiard plans to share the prize with two friends.
The Accident Prevention Bureau said WV 1965 highway fatalities rose to 78, up from 8 last year, after a belated Mineral County report. Lola Price McCauley, 85, died in Romney hospital from injuries suffered March 17 in a two car crash on West Virginia 28 at Fort Ashby, later contracting pneumonia.
The body of 46 year old William D. McCallister, formerly of Yawkey West Virginia, was recovered Tuesday from the Miami River in Dayton. Authorities found no evidence of foul play. He had been living in Dayton and worked for a trucking firm.
Gemini pilots Virgil Grissom and John Young, aboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid, are in good condition after a near perfect three orbit mission. They will undergo technical reviews of their 4 hour 54 minute flight and prepare for a four day Gemini mission planned for late June. The capsule shows minor heat shield wear but remains sound as the crew awaits a White House meeting and return to Cape Kennedy.
British Foreign Secretary Michael Stewart defends U S resolve to back South Viet Nam, saying the right answer is not yielding to aggressors. Robert Gilruth praises Gemini for two week mission potential as long as crew consent. President Johnson replies by phone to John Young, promising to extend Gemini flight duration in the future.

Gov Hulett C Smith announced West Virginia will begin Appalachian Regional Development Act ARD work by mid April after meetings in Washington.
