In a Raleigh County interview, Mrs Shirley McE Anderson a Beckley community leader discusses education needs. She urges better school buildings equipment and trained teachers to handle gifted and special needs students and favors tax funding for education while noting integration progress.
David Titler, 214 Foote St., forfeited $210 during Monday's session of Municipal Court on a reckless driving charge. Other forfeitures included Elmer Ford of Beckley, $51 for shoplifting. cane Foreman, 402 South Pike St., $101 for operating with a revoked license. Dominick Lopez of Hillside, N. J., and Michael Lee Ramsey, 237 Hargrove St., $21 each for speeding. Sabo of Beckley, $6 for blocking a traffic lane. Charles Dowdy, no address, $6 for blocking a driveway. Barbara Ordletay, address unknown, $7 for a traffic violation. William S. Tingler, no address, $11 for a red light violation. Ted Ramsey of Beckley, $5 for permitting a dog to run loose. Of the total, $126 was from intoxication cases.
Mrs. Raymond Rose, president of the Sophia Scholarship Fund, announced the drive continues throughout the area until all parents of Sophia High School students are contacted. Slab Fork workers canvass house to house with several firms still to be reached. Fundraising chairman is Charles Gregory. After last week's canvass, Sophia High School hosted refreshments for workers.
Mrs. Robert Harvey, watching firefighters battle a haystack blaze, saw smoke billow from her home. She quickly checked the stove and flames spread, but rural crews managed to control the house fire.
