State Treasurer John Kelly confirmed that five canceled checks totaling over $10 000 and other records sought by federal investigators in an income tax case are missing from several state offices. He insisted the state is an innocent bystander and that duplicate bank records could cover the missing transactions.
Orchestra leader Ted Weems, 62, is in serious condition in a Tulsa hospital after a Thursday collapse in a hotel room during a Tulsa appearance. Doctors performed a throat operation to improve breathing and suspect possible heart attack.

Kanawha County man Robert Thompson 28 who attended Elkview High and served in the Air Force is missing after a December 14 1961 flight over Cuba to drop anti Castro leaflets. A Cuban refugee outlet claimed Thompson was shot down near Matanzas and another pilot Robert Swanner also reported missing. Thompson told a Charleston photographer he had flown several times dropping leaflets and supplies. his mother laments rumors surrounding his disappearance.
Vernon C. Lloyd 22 from Summit Point West Virginia and Glenn J. Carczynski 21 from New Castle Pennsylvania died when their car lost control and struck a stone wall on federal highway No 40 near Bruchmuehlbach in Kaiserslautern County Germany. The accident was confirmed by an Air Force spokesman in Ramstein.

Cuban exile leader Dr. Luis Conte Agero said Soviet troops were used to crush an uprising in Batabano, Havana Province during the week of February 17. He reported seven Russian soldiers died, including an officer, and wounded troops were hospitalized in Havana.
The Senate voted by voice to extend the military draft to July 1, 1967. The bill, already approved by the House 387-3, keeps men aged 18 to 26 liable for two years of service, with the Army expecting about 76,000 draftees this year.
