FCC Seeks Authority To Regulate CATV
Washington United Press International reports the Federal Communications Commission seeks power to regulate the CATV industry including a ban on originating programs. Rep Harley Staggers sponsors the bill to grant FCC jurisdiction over about 16 600 CATV systems and lets state and local governments set compatible rules. CATV uses aerial signals piped to homes for a fee, expanding in metropolitan areas. The issue also notes KTBC TV ownership by President Johnsons family. FCC extended regulation earlier to 1 200 microwave based CATV systems.
