TV Newsman Bill Lawrence Dies At 56

William H. Lawrence longtime ABC national affairs editor and familiar TV voice died Thursday while covering the New Hampshire presidential primary. He suffered a heart attack with a history of pulmonary edema. Lawrence started in 1932 at age 16 with the Lincoln Star, spent 20 years at The New York Times, joined ABC in 1961, and won the 1965 Peabody for coverage of the 1964 campaign. He reported world events but specialized in U.S. domestic politics.

Green Southes Nationalists discuss Nixon talks in Peking

TAIPEI UPI The foreign ministry said it was satisfied with US Assistant Secretary of State Marshal Green's explanations of President Nixon's talks in Peking last week after nearly six hours of talks with Nationalist government leaders. Green called his mission successful for both sides and the ministry said it obtained from Green a better understanding of clarifications and assurances. A ranking official said Green has removed many doubts and suspicions from their minds.

Buffalo Creek search recovers body amid debris and bridge supports

Rescue teams recovered a body from the Buffalo Creek disaster debris wedged against a steel bridge at Lundale. Refugees washed in makeshift showers as plumbing was destroyed. Scientists pin Bloody Sunday deaths on army rifles
